A Ukrainian pasta producer running two European-made semi-automatic lines decided to move its production to a fully automatic, PLC-controlled system after struggling with operator-related errors and inconsistent product quality. In 2013 the company commissioned Talia Makina's 1,000 kg/h fully automatic short-cut pasta line; ever since, it has been producing consistent-quality pasta with minimal staff.

Project Story

An established pasta producer in Ukraine ran two European-made semi-automatic lines — one short-cut and one long-cut — for many years. In a semi-automatic setup the process depends heavily on operator skill: the pasta was dried in drying cabinets, and the product was carried to the cabinets by hand. Staff-related errors caused production losses, and batch-to-batch variation made a consistent, uniform product impossible to achieve.

To change this picture permanently, the producer decided to base its production on a fully automatic, PLC-controlled system and in 2013 purchased a 1,000 kg/h fully automatic short-cut pasta line from Talia Makina.

The line runs every stage — raw-material dosing, dough preparation, extrusion, cutting, drying and final-product cooling — under Siemens PLC-based automation, with Schneider components in the panels. Pasta leaving the press enters the drying cabin untouched by hand and circulates through it automatically — the manual cabinet-carrying of the old semi-automatic setup disappeared entirely. Because production parameters are stored in recipes, every batch comes out to the same standard; operator intervention and error-related waste dropped to a minimum. The producer reached exactly the goal it had set: maximum pasta quality with minimal staff.

The line produces a wide range of short-cut shapes led by fusilli, penne, elbow macaroni and shells; a round-die change yields dozens of different shapes on the same line. All product-contact surfaces are made of food-grade AISI 304 stainless steel.

Commissioned in 2013, the line has been in production for over 13 years and ranks among Talia Makina's longest-running references. Although the warranty period ended years ago, remote support and spare-parts supply continue uninterrupted to this day.
