Why can't we give you a price right away?

Let's start with the most frequently asked question. The cost of a pasta line varies widely depending on its capacity, product group, delivery scope and site conditions. Even two projects with the same capacity can reach very different budgets: one is a lean line installed in an existing building, the other a complete plant with its silos and packaging system.

That is why, instead of quoting a number at the first meeting, we prefer to talk through a few things first: which products will you make, what is your annual target, is your building ready, which energy sources are available? The price becomes clear at the end of the production scenario we build together — and at that point, the figure you receive is a commitment, not an estimate.

The 6 items that drive the investment

1 · CapacityThe biggest driver of the budget. 500 kg/h and 6,000 kg/h produce the same pasta — but they are investments of very different scale. The right capacity is chosen by your annual sales target, not an hourly figure; the tool below gives you a first idea.
2 · Line typeShort-cut and long-cut lines have different forming and drying systems. If you want to produce both, the two lines are designed as an integrated single factory project.
3 · Drying technologyDrying is the heart of the line: it directly determines product quality and energy — the largest operating cost. Our multi-level drying systems are engineered for homogeneous drying and energy efficiency.
4 · Delivery scopeJust the production line, or silos, packaging and utilities as well? As the scope grows, so does the budget — but you keep a single point of contact and clear lines of responsibility.
5 · Building and infrastructureThe dimensions of your existing building, the floor condition and the energy infrastructure directly affect the project. The earlier this information is shared, the fewer surprises remain in the budget.
6 · Logistics and commissioningShipping, customs, installation and commissioning vary by country. With the experience gained across 42 installations in 18 countries, we clarify these items in the very first offer.

This result is a pre-assessment. The final capacity is determined through engineering work, evaluating your product mix, raw material situation and growth plans together.

The second question that matters as much as price: cost per kilogram

When the offers are in front of you, we recommend looking at one more question alongside the purchase price: how much cost will this line add to every kilogram it produces over the years?

Four items determine this calculation:

Energy efficiencyDrying technology plays the main role here. Drying is the line's largest operating cost.
Waste rateA stable line turns your raw material into product. A line that stops frequently turns it into waste.
Unplanned downtimeEvery stop is lost production. And every restart is an additional cost.
Spare parts and service accessEvery day spent waiting for a part is a day spent closed.

A line that looks affordable on day one can end up costing more overall if it is weak in these four areas. Whichever manufacturer you work with, asking these four questions when comparing offers is the most reliable route to a sound decision.

Information that will speed things up when requesting a quote

  • Target annual or monthly production volume (the tool above gives a first idea)
  • The products you want to make — short-cut, spaghetti or both
  • Your raw material: semolina, flour or a blend
  • Your planned working schedule (production days per month)
  • Building status: dimensions of the existing building or the plan for a new one
  • Available energy sources and any additional scope such as packaging or silos

It's fine if not all of this is ready — we complete the gaps together. Our engineering team studies your project one-to-one and returns with a technical assessment specific to your business.

The scope problem — the checklist that explains the gap

Most of the difference between two quotations is not margin. It is scope. Take both offers and mark each item below as inside or outside the price:

  • Press with vacuum system, raw material and water dosing, die head
  • Automatic cutting unit
  • Pre-drying (shaker) section
  • Main dryer, with tier count and belt dimensions stated
  • PLC and SCADA automation, main panel and local operator panels
  • Hot water boiler and thermal control centre
  • Chiller for extrusion head cooling
  • Air compressor
  • Water softening unit
  • Resting silos, bucket elevator, transfer conveyors, sifter
  • Die sets — and how many
  • Laboratory equipment for moisture measurement
  • All interconnection material between machines: thermal, cooling, vacuum, electrical
  • Installation supervision
  • Commissioning, test production and recipe setting
  • Operator and maintenance training
  • Remote technical support during the warranty period
  • Warranty duration

Every item on that list is inside the supply scope on our lines. On a cheaper offer, several of them usually are not.

That matters for more than the budget. Each item you have to source separately arrives on a different schedule, from a different supplier, and when it does not integrate with the rest of the line, there is no single party responsible for making it work. A boiler bought locally to save money is a common reason a plant starts production months late.

Costs that sit outside every machine quotation

These are the buyer's scope in almost every contract, including ours. They are not hidden — they are simply not part of what a machinery supplier sells, and they are the most common reason a project budget is wrong.

Local labour during installationMechanical, electrical and pipework assistants working under the supplier's supervisors
Working capitalSemolina and packaging film stock. Semolina alone is the largest recurring cost in the plant.
Spare parts and consumablesDies wear. Budget for die replacement from year one.

Total cost of ownership: where the real money is

The purchase price is paid once. These are paid every year.

Energy

Drying is the energy-intensive stage. A 1,000 kg/h line runs at approximately 150 kW average electrical load, with a thermal requirement of around 275,000 kcal/h in normal operation. Over a decade, a difference in drying efficiency outweighs a difference in purchase price.

Waste

Ask for waste per tonne, for each product type, in writing — and for long-cut, ask about both trim points rather than one. On our lines short-cut production generates no process waste. Long-cut trims twice: the hanging ends when the strands are laid over the sticks, which go straight back to the mixing tank, and 2–3 cm at the final trimming after drying depending on pack length, which can optionally be routed back into the raw material feed. Vague answers here usually mean the number is not good.

Downtime

Unplanned stops cost more than any line item in the quotation. Ask what preventive maintenance support the control system provides, and how quickly a technician can connect remotely.

Operator dependency

A line that only runs well when one particular person is on shift is an unpriced risk. Recipe management and automatic parameter changeover between formats are what remove it.

Die life

Dies are consumables. Replaceable Teflon inserts extend service life; systems that track die operating hours let you plan replacement instead of discovering it through a quality complaint.

Check the capacity guarantee, not just the capacity

A capacity figure means nothing without the conditions attached to it. In a properly written quotation you should find:

If those conditions are missing, the capacity figure is marketing rather than a commitment. If they are present, you can compare two offers meaningfully — and you also know what your own mill has to deliver for the guarantee to hold.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. What is the capacity guaranteed on — which format, which moisture, which tolerance?
  2. What are the dryer's tier count, belt width and length?
  3. Which of the scope items above are inside the price?
  4. What raw material specification does the guarantee assume?
  5. What is the waste per tonne for each product type?
  6. What is the average operating electrical and thermal load?
  7. Who supplies the boiler, chiller, compressor and water softening unit?
  8. What is the warranty period, and does it include remote support?
  9. When does the manufacturing clock start — signature, or first payment?
  10. What does the buyer have to provide before installation can start?
  11. What is the commissioning sequence, and what is signed at the end of it?
  12. Who answers the phone in year three?
