Pasta Resting Silo Renewal in Sudan: 4-Compartment Silo and Conveying System
A pasta producer in Sudan running active production on European-origin lines decided to renew its system when the pre-packaging resting silos reached the end of their service life and capacity became insufficient. In 2025 a 4-compartment silo system with a total volume of 64 m³ was installed turnkey, together with the elevator, silo belts and outlet vibrating feeders.
Installed System and Project Profile
Project Story
A pasta producer in Sudan running active production on European-origin lines faced an issue in the pre-packaging section of the plant: the existing resting silos had reached the end of their service life and, against rising production, silo capacity was falling short. The producer decided to renew the silo system completely.
In pasta production, the resting silo is the section where the product coming out of drying is held before packaging. Here the product stabilises in temperature and moisture, and the packaging line is fed steadily from these silos. Silo volume is therefore a factor that directly determines uninterrupted operation of the packaging line.
Talia Makina designed the project not as a single silo group but as a complete system: a 4-compartment silo (4 × 16 m³, total 64 m³), the elevator feeding the silos, the silo belts distributing between compartments, and the outlet vibrating feeders providing controlled feeding to packaging. The total volume corresponds to roughly 25 tonnes of storage depending on product density.
The system runs on full automation from end to end; Siemens components were used in the panels. Filling, routing between compartments and feeding to packaging are managed automatically. Product-contact surfaces are manufactured from material suitable for food production.
The system was commissioned in 2025. This project is one of the examples showing that Talia Makina undertakes not only complete turnkey line installations from scratch but also equipment renewal and capacity expansion projects in existing factories; the silo system of the same structure we installed in Libya in 2024 falls into the same category. All our installations are delivered with a 24-month standard warranty; after the warranty, our spare-part supply and technical support programme continues. Since 2007, we have completed turnkey pasta factory installations in 18 countries.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of a pasta resting silo?
Pasta coming out of drying is held in silos before packaging. At this stage the product's temperature and moisture balance settles, and the packaging line is fed steadily from the silos. Silo volume is decisive for uninterrupted operation of the packaging line.
What silo capacity was installed in the Sudan project?
A 4-compartment resting silo was installed; each compartment 16 m³, total 64 m³. Depending on product density this corresponds to roughly 25 tonnes of storage.
Which equipment does the silo system cover?
In addition to the silo compartments, the scope includes the elevator feeding the silos, the silo belts distributing between compartments and the outlet vibrating feeders providing controlled feeding to the packaging line. The system is delivered as a complete conveying line.
Can silos be renewed in an existing factory?
Yes. Silo systems that have reached the end of their service life or fall short on capacity are renewed based on the existing plant arrangement. The project in Sudan was carried out exactly in this scope; a system of the same structure was installed in Libya in 2024.
How does automation work in the silo system?
The system runs on full automation with Siemens components in the panels. Silo filling, routing between compartments and feeding to the packaging line are managed automatically.
Can a producer running European-origin lines use Talia Makina equipment?
Yes. Silo and conveying systems are designed according to the existing production flow and integrate smoothly into plants running lines of different origins. The producer in Sudan runs European-origin pasta lines and chose Talia Makina for the silo investment.
How is silo capacity selected?
The decisive factors are the production rate and the packaging line's operating pattern: total volume is determined by evaluating resting time and packaging capacity together. The number of compartments is planned according to how many different products need to be kept separate at the same time.
What does the warranty cover?
All our installations are delivered with a 24-month standard warranty covering parts and workmanship. After the warranty period, our spare-part supply and technical support programme continues.
Does Talia Makina install only complete pasta lines?
No. Alongside turnkey factory installations from scratch, we also carry out silo, conveying system and equipment renewal projects in existing plants. The silo installations in Sudan (2025) and Libya (2024) are references in this scope. Since 2007, we have completed turnkey pasta factory installations in 18 countries.
