A 500 kg/h Short-Cut Pasta Line Built from Scratch in Syria

A Syrian investor wanted to enter the pasta industry from scratch, with no prior production experience. In 2011, Talia Makina's turnkey 500 kg/h short-cut pasta line was commissioned. The installation is one of our earliest turnkey projects, carried out in a geography neighbouring our production base in Gaziantep.

Project Story

In 2011, a Syrian investor decided to enter the pasta industry from scratch. Having no production experience, he was not looking for a supplier that delivers the machinery and leaves, but for a turnkey partner that builds the plant and makes it production-ready — and chose Talia Makina.

The project was realised with a 500 kg/h short-cut pasta line: line design, manufacturing, shipping, site installation, commissioning and operator training were carried out from a single source. During commissioning, hands-on operator training was provided on site and the first production period was accompanied; thanks to recipe-based automation, the inexperienced team reached consistent quality in a short time.

The line runs on Siemens PLC-based automation, with Yaskawa components in the panels. All product-contact surfaces are made of food-grade AISI 304 stainless steel. The line can produce a wide range of short-cut shapes led by fusilli, penne, elbow and shell; with a round-die change, dozens of different shapes can be produced on the same line. In continuous operation, theoretical capacity reaches 12 tonnes per day.

Geography was another advantage of the project: our production base Gaziantep neighbours Syria. Shipping and site installation were planned over a short distance, and spare-part supply benefits from the same proximity.

This 2011 installation is one of the earliest turnkey projects of Talia Makina, founded in 2007, and stands alongside our 2008 Kyrgyzstan installation among our first-generation references. The from-scratch investor pattern continues today: our customers in Georgia (2021), Iraq and Ethiopia started production with the same model. All lines are delivered with a 24-month standard warranty; after the warranty, our spare-part supply and technical support programme continues. Since 2007, we have completed turnkey pasta factory installations in 18 countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a pasta production line installed in Syria?

Project planning, line design, manufacturing, shipping, site installation, commissioning and operator training are carried out turnkey from a single source. The full scope was applied in the Syrian installation; the line started production in 2011.

What capacity was installed in Syria?

A 500 kg/h short-cut pasta line was installed; in continuous operation, theoretical capacity reaches 12 tonnes per day. Talia Makina delivers turnkey installations with single-line capacities from 500 up to 6,000 kg/h.

Which pasta shapes are produced?

A wide range of short-cut shapes led by fusilli, penne, elbow and shell can be produced; with a round-die change, more than 30 shapes can be obtained on the same line.

Where should an investor planning a pasta factory from scratch start?

The first step is capacity selection and a line layout plan based on the target market. In the turnkey model, line design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and operator training proceed from a single source, so the investor does not need to build a separate engineering team. Our customer in Syria entered the industry with this model in 2011.

Can a team with no pasta experience operate the line?

Yes. During commissioning, hands-on operator training is provided on site and the first production period is accompanied; since production parameters are stored in PLC recipes, product quality does not depend on operator experience. The plant in Syria reached standard production in a short time although the team had no prior experience.

What automation infrastructure does the line use?

Siemens PLC-based automation is used, with Yaskawa components preferred in the panels. From raw-material dosing to drying, process and recipe management runs automatically.

What is the service advantage in markets close to Türkiye?

Our production base Gaziantep is located in a geography neighbouring Syria. This proximity speeds up shipping, site installation and spare-part supply; when needed, the technical team reaches the site in a short time.

What does the warranty cover?

All our lines are delivered with a 24-month standard warranty covering parts and workmanship. After the warranty period, our spare-part supply and technical support programme continues.

Does Talia Makina have other installations in the region?

Yes. In Iraq, two 600 kg/h short-cut lines were installed for two separate producers in 2020 and 2022; in Türkiye, four lines with a total capacity of 7,000 kg/h were installed in two factories. Since 2007, we have completed turnkey pasta factory installations in 18 countries.
